To All:
Its with heavy heart that I report the passing of Berge Jermakin, KC2SBO, an avid Nassau Amateur Radio Club member as well as long time member of Nassau ARES....
Berge K. Jermakian was the epitome of a life well lived. Born on July 30, 1931, he was a man who lived life to the fullest until his very last days. He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Virginia (Ginny, nee Erreger), his children, daughter Arlene (James) Heed, sons Edward and Phillip, grandchildren, Craig and Courtney Heed, extended family, and friends who spanned the globe. Berge was predeceased by only 10 days by his brother, Armen (Virginia). A proud Armenian American, Berge was the recipient of the FAA Charles Taylor Award, which recognized his experience of more than 50 years in aircraft maintenance. A Korean War Veteran, having proudly served in the United States Air Force, Berge was the Lead Technician at Northwest Airlines JFK for 43 years. Berge believed in sharing his passions with those around him. He was the former Rifle Team Coach at Valley Stream North High School and the Maintenance Director of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. His involvement in numerous organization further allowed him to share his expertise in a multitude of fields with others, from airplanes to HAM radio and nearly everything in between. Affectionally known as “Tic Tok,” Berge’s friends were fond of saying that if you asked him the time, Berge was likely to provide you with a detailed tutorial on how to build a clock. Berge was an active member of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA), the North East Arms Collectors, Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), the American Radio Relay League (ARRL, HAM radio organization), the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, and the Nassau County Fish and Game Association. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital in Berge’s memory.
