Lou I recently installed Vara FM.
I hope to test it out soon.

I understand that Babylon Town Hall will soon have a Vara FM node on VHF.

Hi Lew,

If you have not already done so, take a look at the RATPAC videos on YouTube.  Over the last year or so they had many discussions about all manner of digital communications and the hardware and software that they believe work well for each.  They have talked about signalink interfaces, but they typically suggested newer versions that had some better features and internal isolation transformers that were more conducive to use of faster and/or more modern protocols.  One brand of interface that many of the users seemed to favor for VARA were the ones provided by a company called Masters Communications owned by a gentleman named Kevin Custer, W3KKC.  You can find his stuff at his site Masterscommunications.com.  I have no affiliation with him, other that having bought one of his kits that I have yet to build or use.  I'm sure you can find a lot of the information you seek at RATPAC.

Return to in-person Meetings and Task Books

Group Moderator

Members and Reserve Members:

Starting Thursday Sept 8th, we will resume "In-Person" activities meeting at the American Red Cross Building at 195 Willis Ave, Mineola at 1930 hrs. The 2nd Floor room is not available due to a prior reservation, so for this coming meeting we will meet in the basement meeting room.  Entrance and parking in rear of building. We will continue at least through the end of the year to stream the meeting as well using 'go-to-meeting' (at which point the use will be reevaluated).  Log on info is on our website www.nassaucountyares.org

At the General Meeting we will take this time evaluate the ARES Task Books we started before COVID had pushed us to online meetings. Rob KD2GRS and myself will be signing off on sections/level of completions.  This is a necessary step to get a new ID card since all have expired.  I will have blank task books available for those who lost or misplaced theirs.  Bring Certificates/certifications for any ICS, ARRL, other courses that need to be signed off in your Task Book.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.
